Hypertensive heart disease

Hypertensive heart disease is any of a number of complications of arterial hypertension that affects the heart. It is one of the most common causes of death in Western societies.

Symptoms

  • fatigue
  • irregular pulse
  • swelling of feet
  • dyspnea
  • weight gain
  • nausea
  • shortness of breath
  • difficulty sleeping flat in bed
  • bloating
  • greater need to urinate at night

Conditions (potential complications)

  • left ventricular hypertrophy
  • coronary heart disease
  • congestive heart failure
  • hypertensive cardiomyopathy
  • cardiac arrhythmias
